A proposal by commissioners from the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board to ban smoking in public parks has been tabled. A 2010 law banned smoking within 100 feet of park buildings, playgrounds, public pools, beaches and in park buildings, but the new law would have restricted the smoking of tobacco products within the parks themselves. Representatives from anti-smoking groups, as well as smokers made their voices known—part of the reason why the Park Board tabled the matter.
