A bill set to be introduced into the Oregon legislature could require tobacco retailers to obtain a new license in order to keep doing business in the state. When the legislature begins in 2016 session on Feb. 1, State Senator Laurie Monnes Anderson (D-25), who is also a public health nurse, will introduce the bill with the purpose of generating funds to enforce rules against selling tobacco to underage persons. A similar proposal was defeated in July 2015, partly due to the fees not being specified in that version of the bill. This year’s version spells out the cost at $300 per license. Changes were also made as to the restrictions on where a tobacco retailer can be located.
