Ron Payne, the mayor of Owensboro, Ky. seems intent on getting a new smoking ban passed in his town, quite possibly before the end of summer. At the conclusion of the City Commission’s meeting on Tuesday, Payne said that “we’re going to be a smoke-free community; it’s on the agenda for August. The staff is working on it.” The mayor’s proposed ban would prohibit smoking in all public spaces, including parks and outdoor dining areas and city-owned properties, according to the Owensboro Messenger. Owensboro is the Bluegrass State’s fourth-largest city with just over 58,000 residents. It’s the seat of Davies County and is located 80 miles southwest of Louisville.
