The Fort Collins, Colo. City Council will be discussing expanding the city’s existing smoking ban at their meeting on Tuesday afternoon, with a number of topics on the table as they look to craft an ordinance to be considered at a later date. One topic up for discussion will be a complete ban on smoking in city parks, trails and natural areas, a move being spurred by a desire to reduce both litter and potential fire danger. The city will also look at a ban on smoking within its Old Town district. Also up for discussion will be bans on smoking at public events and a complete ban on smoking in hotel and motel rooms. Electronic smoking and vaporizers will also be discussed as the city could ban their use at restaurants, bars, workplaces, outdoor dining areas and public transit facilities, according to the North Colorado Business Report. Tobacco use has been a topic of recent discussion, as the city’s ordinance changed in January to ban smoking within 10 feet of outdoor dining areas, bar patios and transit facilities.
