Legislators in St. Louis County, Mo. will soon begin deliberations on whether not to raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco products to 21-years-old. Yesterday, St. Louis County Councilman Dr. Sam Page announced that he will be introducing the proposal at tonight’s county council meeting. Page is a anesthesiologist who is an attending physician at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis and an assistant clinical professor of anesthesiology and pain management at St. Louis University Medical School. The introduction of the bill brings the Tobacco21 movement to the east side of Missouri and the state’s most populous city. In Nov. 2015, Kansas City approved an increase as part of a joint action with Kansas City, Kan. and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County, Kan. Columbia, Mo., which is located in central Missouri, approved a similar increase in the minimum age to purchase tobacco products in Dec. 2014.
