It wasn’t on display at the recent IPCPR Convention & Trade Show, but Matilde Cigars has shipped Serena, a new limited edition cigar, to a handful of retailers across the country. The Serena uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrapper over a Dominican binder and Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. There are four sizes being released, Corona (5 1/2 x 44, $6.75), Grande (6 x 60, $8.50), Robusto (5 1/4 x 54, $7.50) and Toro Bravo (6 1/2 x 54, $8). Each size is being released in 20-count teal boxes that share a design with the company’s other lines, Renacer, Oscura and Quadrata. While the factory producing the cigars has not been announced, in December 2015 Matilde moved its production to Tabacalera Palma in Tamboril, Dominican Republic. South Florida retailer Smoke Inn noted that the Matilde Serena is being limited to just 10 retailers worldwide, while saying the flavor profile is “a refined and complex profile, loaded with creamy notes of butter, green tea, honey, table cream, and just the right touch of spice for a perfect balance.” The cigar is also available at SmallBatchCigar.com.
