A new smoking ban will be coming to Ashland, Ore. next month, as the Ashland City Council approved a proposal that has been in the works since November on Tuesday night. When it goes into effect in 30 days, smoking will be prohibited on public sidewalks in the downtown area, as well as within 10 feet of a public sidewalk. A 10 foot band is also being put in place around doors, windows and vents that lead to a building or other enclosed space. Violators could face a fine of $130. News of the law’s passage was reported by KDRV-TV. Ashland is home to nearly 21,000 residents and is located in the southern part of the state, approximately 18 miles north of the California border.
