A proposal to ban the use of all forms of tobacco products and electronic smoking devices in parks and on city property got the approval of the Jamestown City Council on Monday night and immediately went into effect. The proposal passed by a 6-1 vote with two council members absent. The ban extends into parking facilities and vehicles owned or leased by the city, according to WRFA-FM. Fines for violators start at $50 for the first offense before escalating to $100 for a second offense and $250 for each violation after that. The city has not yet posted the ordinance on its website. Jamestown is home to nearly 31,000 residents and is located in the southwestern corner of the state, approximately 60 miles southwest of Buffalo.
