San Francisco city supervisors will soon consider a measure to raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco products to 21, a move that if approved will make it the second largest city to make such a change. The proposal, proposed by Supervisor Scott Weiner, was unanimously approved by the Board of Supervisors’ land use and transportation committee earlier this week. It will now go in front of the supervisors on March 2. San Francisco would join New York City and Boston as major American cities to make such an increase. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has also sought an increase, but the city council has objected in recent weeks. San Francisco is home to just over 850,000 residents as of July 2014.
