In May, L’Atelier Imports released the Côte d’Or; in March, the company plans to ship the follow-up. The L’Atelier Côte d’Or La Tâche will be a 5 1/2 x 50 robusto version of the Côte d’Or blend, which uses the Ecuadorian Sancti Spiritus wrapper found on the L’Atelier Selection Spéciale and Nicaraguan fillers including, pelo de oro, which has become a sort of signature for the brand. Pelo de oro, which translates to golden hair, has been banned in Cuba due to its propensity to mold. The tobacco, which has a unique golden color, has been a prized leaf amongst the José “Pepín” García family farms. Pricing will be $16 per cigar and it is limited to 2,000 boxes of 10 cigars. Unlike last year’s, the La Tâche will be a round cigar. Côte d’Or is a region located in eastern France that grows pinot noir grapes and is known for being temperamental, somewhat similar to the difficulties of growing pelo de oro.
