Taking its anti-tobacco settlement to a new level, the city of Fremont, Calif. has declared it will not allow any new retail tobacco stores to open within city limits, a move approved by the city council at its meeting on Tuesday. The move adds onto an existing moratorium on new electronic cigarette stores or lounges and new vapor bars to open. While city staff had recommended allowing new tobacco stores to open within tightly zoned areas, the council sided with the city’s planning commission in going with an all-out ban, according to the Contra Costa Times. There is only one premium cigar shop in Fremont currently, Ohlone Cigar Lounge. Fremont is located approximately 26 miles southeast of Oakland and is home to nearly 225,000 residents.
