Borough leaders in Fort Lee, N.J. have decided against trying to raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco products, saying that it could create a conflict with state law. The borough’s attorney said raising the age from 19 to 21 would possibly put the city at risk of a lawsuit, according to a report on NorthJersey.com. Fort Lee becomes the fourth city citing legal reasons for not moving forward with the age increase, joining Edgewater, Paramus and North Plainfield, however 14 cities and towns have approved the increase, none of which have been sued over it. Fort Lee has a population of 35,000 and is located west of Manhattan, connected to the island by the George Washington bridge.
