Chatham County, N.C. will make all government-owned grounds completely tobacco free next year after the Chatham County Board of County Commissioners heard and acted on a recommendation from the Chatham County Board of Health this week. The ban will go into effect on March 1, 2016. All tobacco products, both smoked and non-smoked, as well as electronic cigarettes and vaping devices will be prohibited once the ban goes into effect, which covers government offices, county parks, offices and buildings owned by the county as well as county vehicles. Fines or other punishments for violators of the ban have not been announced. Chatham County is located to the southwest of the Raleigh-Durham area and is home to nearly 67,000 residents.
