The Geneva City Council has passed a ban on smoking in the city’s 12 parks, a change that while technically going into effect immediately, will be eased in over the next few weeks while signage is installed and the public is informed about the changes. Penalties for violating the ban once in effect range from verbal warnings to $250 for repeat offenses. It’s the second smoking ban passed by city officials recently, as the Geneva Housing Authority voted in late July to ban smoking in the 228 housing units they manage. Geneva is home to just over 13,000 residents and is located in the state’s Finger Lakes region, just over 100 miles east of Buffalo.
