On Monday, Salem, Ore. was expected to take a second and final vote on a smoking ban, but the mayor wasn’t there and as such that vote has been delayed. According to the Statesman Journal, Mayor Anna Peterson wanted to be at the final vote to weigh in on the measure, which passed the City Council 5-4 at an earlier June meeting, she wasn’t able to be there, so the City Council has delayed. The proposed smoking ban would fine violators $50 for the first offense, $150 for the second and $250 for the third. Salem is the capital of Oregon, located in both Marion and Polk Counties. It has a metro area population of over 400,000.
