The board of health in Bethuen, Mass. has voted to increase the minimum age to purchase tobacco products and electronic cigarettes from 18 to 21, a change that will go into effect on Sept. 1. Additionally, the board has made it illegal to use electronic cigarettes in places where smoking is banned, and has banned the sale of rolling papers, flavored tobacco and single cigars priced under $2.50 in convenience stores. While the city has not posted the change on its website, nor text of the new rules, the Eagle-Tribune reported that the five members of the board voted unanimously in favor of the changes. Methuen is located in the northeastern corner of the state, approximately 30 miles from Boston. It had a 2013 population estimate of 48,514 residents.
