After a soft launch in March, the newest L’Atelier is shipping nationwide. Sean “Casper” Johnson of L’Atelier Imports told halfwheel the new L’Atelier Côte d’Or, a 7 x 47 soft-pressed churchill, began shipping yesterday to retailers nationwide. The cigar, which was announced at last year’s trade show, is limited to just 2,100 boxes of 10 cigars. It uses an Ecuadorian Sancti Spiritus, the same used on the L’Atelier Selection Spéciale vitolas, over Nicaraguan fillers, including pelo de oro, a strain of tobacco banned in Cuba due to its propensity to mold. The name was inspired by the difficulty in growing pelo de oro; Côte d’Or is a region located in eastern France that grows pinot noir grapes and is known for also being temperamental. The cigars are made by the García family at My Father Cigars S.A.
