While it won’t go down as the biggest victory in the fight to preserve smoking rights, the unincorporated town of Glen Allan, Miss. scored a victory on Monday as the Washington County Board of Supervisors agreed to drop an ordinance that would have brought a smoking ban to all public places. Of Glen Allan’s estimated 837 residents, some 300 signed a petition started by grocer Earl Devine in April which was brought to the board. Smoking is already prohibited in 95 percent of Glen Allan’s buildings, according to The Delta Democrat who was first to report the victory. Glen Allan is located about 100 miles northwest of Jackson.
