The town-by-town campaign in Massachusetts to raise the tobacco purchase age to 21 claimed another victory last night, as the town of Montague’s board of health passed the age increase proposal Wednesday night. In addition, the  board passed a ban on flavored tobacco products, with the exception of menthol and other mint flavors. Both changes go into effect on July 1. Recorder.com reported that there was no opposition to either proposal. Montague is the first town in Franklin County to pass the age increase, with the neighboring town of Leverett’s board of health slated to vote on an age increase as well on Wednesday. Montague is located in the central part of the state, about 90 miles west of Boston. It has a population of around 8,500 residents.
