A proposed smoking ban covering restaurants and parks in Terrell, Texas is moving full steam ahead towards a vote next month. City Manager Tony Edwards and his staff heard feedback from members of the Terrell City Council and a survey conducted of the east Texas city’s bars and restaurants and will now present a revised smoking ban at a Nov. 13 meeting. It is expected that a vote will take place on Nov. 18 and a second reading on Dec. 2, with Jan. 1, 2015 eyed as the implementation date. If passed, the ban would cover city parks, vehicles, work areas and restaurants without a bar. Restaurants with a bar would have to make designated and ventilated smoking areas, while standalone bars will continue to have the option to allow smoking. Terrell is located in Kaufman County, roughly 30 miles east of Dallas. It has a population around 15,000.
