Brian L. Landers wants to make smoking on sidewalks illegal in Dells, Wis. According to Landers, last night was the first step in that plan. The Dells City Council unanimously passed a new ordinance that bans smoking in public parks and on paths and trails owned by the city. That new law paves the way for Landers, who serves as the city’s mayor, to ban smoking elsewhere. If the new law passes a second reading, smoking in public parks could cost you $85 per offense as early as September. After that, Landers would likely ask the City Council to consider banning smoking at all downtown public property, including sidewalks. Dells is located in the southern part of the state and is uniquely located in four different countries—Adams, Columbia, Juneau and Sauk. It has a population just over 2,500.
