For the top accounts of Cuba Rica, a new cigar is coming to humidors. Stephen Adib’s latest cigar is Barabbas, a single vitola line limited to 33 accounts. As far as the cigar, it uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper with an undisclosed filler. It measures 5 1/2 x 54 and carries a price of $20. It will arrive in special display humidors, made to hold 99 cigars. At the beginning of each month, retailers will receive three 33-count wheels. Adib has stressed that it’s limited to 33 locations meaning a retailer with multiple stores will need multiple humidors. The name and numbering scheme is biblical in nature. Barabbas is the prisoner freed by Pontius Pilate instead of Jesus of Nazareth before the latter’s crucifixion. “What is not as widely known, however, is the personal transformation he experienced as a result,” explained Adib. “Witnessing the impact of the death of Jesus on his followers, Barabbas eventually gave his life so that a disciple of Jesus could be spared. The dichotomy between the two historical figures was the basis for creating the Barabbas cigar.” The number 33 draws inspiration from the believed age of Jesus of Nazerath at the time of his death.
