There are several well-known father and son blending teams in the cigar business, and now there’s a new one—formed by two individuals already well-established in premium cigars. Abdel Fernandez, head of A.J. Fernandez, and his father, Ismael, a cigar industry veteran, have co-blended their first cigar for A.J. Fernandez, New World. The company will debut New World at the upcoming IPCPR convention and trade show. Its branding comes from the introduction of tobacco to Europeans by the indigenous people of the new world in 1492. “The team at A.J. Fernandez Cigars is grateful for the amazing support we have received from the consumer and therefore will offer the New World Cigar at a value price as we invite everyone to join us on our New World journey,” said Abdel Fernandez in a press release. “The New World Cigar relates to expanding one’s knowledge and questioning the status quo by discovering our personal New Worlds as we go through life.” New World is a blend of Nicaraguan tobacco, described by the company as “medium-full.” It uses a Nicaraguan oscuro wrapper, binder from Jalapa, and fillers from Condega, Ometempe and ligero from Finca Soledad in Estelí.
