La Aurora’s long-time U.S. distributor is getting a major makeover and it’s getting in on the action too. At this year’s IPCPR trade show, the company will unleash Untamed, described as the company’s strongest offering to date and packaged in incredibly aggressive packaging for the Dominican Republic’s oldest cigar company. Untamed features a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, Dominican corojo binder and Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. The company will offer it in five sizes: Robusto (5 x 50, $7.50), Belicoso (6 1/4 x 52, $9), Toro (5 1/2 x 54, $8.75), Corona Gorda (6 x 47, $7.75) and Gran (7 x 60, $11). Four sizes are sold in 20-count boxes, while the larger Untamed Gran is in a 16-count box. “The goal was to show that La Aurora, still going strong after 111 years (and) understands the needs and preferences of the emerging modern cigar smokers,” said Jason Holly, who handles brand development for Miami Cigar & Co. and worked extensively with La Aurora on Untamed. “We wanted to show that with our deep and expansive library of tobacco we can put together a fuller bodied cigar without sacrificing flavor.” La Aurora expects the cigars to begin shipping to retailers in August ...
