Gavin Ferlic, the South Bend Common Council member who is the main supporter of a smoking ban currently being considered in that city, is taking his argument on the road tomorrow, as he will meet with the Public Health and Safety Committee of the Mishawaka Common Council. Mishawaka sits approximately five miles south east of South Bend, and it’s Ferlic’s hope that both that city and St. Joseph County will pass ordinances similar to the one that may come to South Bend, according to the South Bend Tribune. The Mishawaka officials have said that this is solely an informational presentation and that they are doing nothing more than listening to the idea at this point. Dave Wood, the mayor of Mishawaka, has gone on record as saying that he opposes any smoking ban that is more restrictive than what the state’s laws currently require. The meeting is scheduled for 6 pm on Tuesday night and is open to the public. Mishawaka is home to approximately 48,000 residents.
