The Palo Alto Policy and Services Committee will discuss expanding the city’s existing downtown smoking ban at its meeting on Tuesday night, as well implementing possible restrictions on sales and indoor smoking in the downtown and California Avenue business districts. Last November, the city council directed staff to begin working on documenting the effects and opinions of expanding the smoking ban within those two areas. Community members will be able to share their opinions on the proposals at the meeting. In May 2013, the city banned smoking in all of its city-owned parks, a change that went into effect last October. Palo Alto is located in Santa Clara County in the southern Bay Area and is home to more than 66,000 residents.
