The Iosco County Board of Commissioners has begun the process of crafting a new smoking ban for the county, but unlike the trend of including parks, this one appears to exempt from the ban. The first proposed ordinance was presented to the board on June 4, who has expressed the desire to get input from department heads, employees and labor unions before moving forward with the ban that would prohibit smoking on county property. The request for the proposed ban came from the board after a fire at the Iosco County EMS Station was blamed on smoking, according to the Iosco County News-Herald. As it is currently written, the ordinance would ban the use of any tobacco product on all county campuses. A timeline for the board to vote on the matter has not been announced. Iosco County is located in central Michigan and borders Lake Huron on the eastern side of the state’s lower peninsula. It is home to approximately 25,000 residents.
