The Dilworth City Council recently passed a resolution that immediately bans the use of all tobacco products and e-cigarettes in parks in the town of just over 4,000 people. The bill was introduced to the council on April 28 by Cheryl Stetz, vice president of the Dilworth Park Board, and the four-member council unanimously approved it, with the city mayor absent. The new law provides for signage at parks but doesn’t carry any fines for violators, with the expectation that park users will follow the signs and the change will be self-policing. Tobacco-Free Youth Recreation program director Emily Anderson told Inforum.com that Dilworth joins 155 cities and counties across the state in banning smoking in parks. Dilworth is part of the Fargo-Moorhead metro area in western Minnesota.
