The small city of Saluda, N.C. is joining the wave of municipalities looking at smoking bans for its parks and recreation areas, as the Saluda City Council discussed a proposal at their meeting this week and expects to have a revised draft on the agenda for their May meeting. According to a report in the Tyron Daily Bulletin, the sticking point at the meeting was whether or not to include the town’s pavilion, a popular spot for events and private rentals. The council eventually agreed to have a draft ordinance written that would include the pavilion as well as its two main parks. It would also include city vehicles, but would not apply to city streets or sidewalks. The ordinance is expected to come to a vote at the council’s May 12 meeting. Saluda is home to approximately 700 residents and is located in the southwest corner of the state, just over 90 miles west of Charlotte.
