The iconic Cape Cod Seashore could be the next to ban smoking at its beaches, as Seashore Supt. George Price recently told the Cape Cod National Seashore Advisory Commission that smoking was reported as the number one complaint at the six beaches in the Seashore’s care. At the commission’s meeting this past Monday, Cape Cod National Seashore Supt. George Price said that he is considering instituting a smoking ban at the beaches and was met with generally favorable support from the commission, according to the Provincetown Banner. The cleanup of cigarette butts, as well as concerns about the community’s health were the two cited reasons for the proposal. There are six beaches in The Seashore’s management: Herring Cove and Race Point in Provincetown, Head of the Meadow in Truro, Marconi Beach in Wellfleet and Nauset Light and Coast Guard beaches in Eastham, all of which are in the state of Massachusetts. No timeline has been established for when a ban might be implemented.
