The Maywood Council appears set to approve a ban on smoking in public parks and recreation areas, as the proposal has moved quickly through the legislative process. Introduced on April 1 when Mayor Gregg Padovano cited the health and litter aspects of continuing to allow smoking in parks, the ordinance came up for its first vote on April 8 and was passed unanimously by the five members of the council present, with two members absent. It will return for a second and final vote at the April 22 meeting where members of the public will be allowed to share their thoughts on the ordinance with the council. Maywood is a borough in Bergen County with a population of just under 10,000 residents. It is located approximately 18 miles north of Newark.
