The next version of the Ortega Serie D is expected in late June. Eddie Ortega told halfwheel he’s finally put the Serie D Black in production and expects it to hit retail in a couple of months. The Serie D Black is slated to be the fullest of the Serie D line, with Ortega admitting the line only needed a mild offering to be fully-encompassing. To do this, it uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper over Nicaraguan fillers. Three sizes will be produced: robusto (5 x 50, $8.95), toro (6 x 50, $9.10) and belicoso (6 x 52, $9.45). Like the rest of the line, the Ortega Serie D Black is being at My Father Cigars S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua. It will be sold in 20-count boxes. Unlike the Serie D and Serie D Maduro, the Serie D Black will be round as opposed to pressed. Ortega said this was to satisfy concerns from anyone that does not appreciate a box-press.
