The town of Weymouth, Mass. is looking at implementing several new ordinances that would affect the purchase and consumption of tobacco products. Up for discussion is a ban on smoking at town playgrounds, beaches, swimming areas and recreation fields, as well as a ban on smoking within 25 feet of municipal buildings and at public transportation waiting areas. There is also a proposal to ban the sale of tobacco at pharmacies and health institutions, and at any educational institution hoping to open in the town, according to The Weymouth News. According to the report, the proposals are currently being reviewed by Town Solicitor George Lane for their legalities before they would be presented to the town council at a future meeting. Weymouth is located approximately twelve miles southeast of Boston and is home to nearly 55,000 residents.
