The city council of Oxnard, Calif. has voted to expand the city’s existing smoking ban to a number of additional public places as well as to include electronic cigarettes. At its meeting on Tuesday, the council voted to expand the ban to cover a number of specific areas, including outdoor dining areas, as well as city streets and sidewalks. Public events such as festivals, parades and farmer’s markets are included, as are parks, beaches, recreation areas and walking paths, service lines and bus stops. The new ban also includes a 25 foot no smoking zone around each of the areas where smoking is prohibited. It is scheduled to into effect in mid-December. Oxnard is home to approximately 203,000 residents, which makes it the 19th most populous city in California. It is located just over 60 miles west of Los Angeles.
