The town of Egremont has joined the movement to raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco products and e-cigarettes from 18 to 21-years-old, with the change going into effect on Nov. 15. The increase was approved unanimously by the town’s board of health, which also agreed to delay the increase’s date from the Oct. 1 date that was included in the proposal. The date change was approved to help lessen the impact to local businesses, according to the Berkshire Eagle. Additionally, the town requires a complete ban on all self-service displays, including walk-in humidors, although the town doesn’t appear to have any premium cigar shops. Egremont is located in southwestern Massachusetts along the border with New York and is home to an estimated 1,225 residents.
