Nomad Cigar Co. has expanded the distribution of its recently released SA-17 Lancero to all of its retailers after releasing it to a limited number of stores. Fred Rewey told halfwheel that he had originally sent the 7 x 38 vitola to “a handful of retailers” prior to the Aug. 8 FDA deadline to have new cigars commercially available. Like the rest of the line, which shipped in mid-May and includes a Coronita (5 1/2 x 46), Robusto (5 x 50), Toro (6 x 50) and Shorty (4 x 56), the SA-17 Lancero uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and filler, and is made at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua S.A. It will come with an MSRP of $9.75 and be packed in 21-count boxes. In an announcement sent on Wednesday, Rewey noted that the Lancero was rolled at the same time as the other sizes but kept under wraps. “Most people didn’t really know the size existed…and I was not quick to mention it with all the noise of other new releases earlier in the year, he added.
