The city of Fife, Wash. has joined several of its Pierce County neighbors in passing a ban on the use of all tobacco products in city parks, as the Fife City Council voted 4-2 in favor of it last Thursday. The vote makes all of the city’s parks completely tobacco-free, as well as bans the use of e-cigarettes and similar vaping devices. Violators will be subject to a $50 fine and Class 3 civil infraction effective today, the first day of the ban, according to a report from the News Tribune. The report adds that “city leaders and police emphasize the ordinance is an education tool and smokers won’t receive anything more stern than a warning.” Fife is located approximately 30 miles south of Seattle, with a population of approximately 9,500 residents.
