On Tuesday, the Coos Bay, Ore. City Council voted to expand the existing ban on smoking in parks while implementing a new ban on a good amount of city-owned property. A pair of proposals were up for a vote during the most recent meeting, the first of which expanded the existing ban on smoking along the city’s boardwalk and in Mingus Park to “all developed parks” in the city, a number that totals 11 specific places. The second implements a ban on smoking and the use of e-cigarettes at the Coos Bay City Hall, public library, fire stations, city shops, and visitor’s information center, as well as city-owned property adjacent to those places and the adjoining parking areas. The new bans go into effect on Aug. 19 according to KCBY.com. Coos Bay is located on the coast of southwest Oregon and is home to nearly 16,000 residents.
