First it was Melanio, now Oliva will pay tribute to another one of the family’s ancestors, Facundo Oliva. Facundo is the son of Melanio, father of Gilberto Oliva Sr., the family’s current patriarch. Like his father, Facundo managed the family’s farms in Cuba in the early 20th century before Gilberto Sr. left the country in the 1960s. As for the cigar, it will be offered in two wrappers: an Ecuadorian Connecticut and Sumatra. Both use an Ecuadorian binder over Nicaraguan fillers. Five sizes will be offered: Robusto (5 x 50), Toro (6 x 50), Torpedo (6 1/2 x 52), Churchill (6 1/2 x 52) and Corona (5 1/2 x 44). The Corona size will come wrapped in cedar. The Oliva Facundo will have price points from $5-7 and come in boxes of 20. It will launch nationally in September. Oliva was recently acquired by J. Cortès, this is the company’s first new product announcement since the acquisition. The 2016 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show begins July 25 in Las Vegas.
