At the 2016 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show, General Cigar Co. will introduce a new extension to its Cohiba line, Cohiba Macassar. The new line uses a Connecticut havano wrapper, Connecticut broadleaf binder and filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Each filler leaf was aged for at least four years with the tobaccos spending their final year in rum barrels. If that sounds familiar, it’s because the company aged filler tobaccos for its Cohiba Comador line in a similar fashion. News of the line was first reported by Cigar Aficionado. Alan Wilner, vp of marketing for General Cigar Co., confirmed the news to halfwheel. As the name implies, the cigar uses a box that includes macassar ebony, a dark wood known for its reddish stripes. It will be offered in three regular production sizes: Toro Grande (6 x 52, $21.99), Gigante (6 x 60, $23.99) and Double Corona (7 1/4 x 54, $24.99). The 2016 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show begins July 25 in Las Vegas.
