This is somewhat of a rare review. We’ve already reviewed the Ramón Allones 8-9-8, or rather, a Ramón Allones 8-9-8, albeit that cigar was a regular production item from the late 1990s and the cigar I’m reviewing today was released in 2015, and only for Germany. While not as well-known as the Partagás cigar that goes by the same, the Ramón Allones 8-9-8 has a lengthy story. This is the third known release of the cigar. Two cigars were labeled as the 8-9-8 Cabinet Selection, one a 5 7/12 (142mm) x 42 cigar that came in a typical box and was discontinued in the 1970s according to Cuban Cigar Website. The other, which Brooks reviewed, was a 6 7/10 (170mm) x 43 cigar that came in varnished boxes. That cigar was discontinued in 2002. Then it came back. As part of the 2014 Edición Regional program, 5th Avenue Products Trading GmbH—the German distributor for Habanos S.A.—was selected to receive the Ramón Allones 8-9-8. As has become more the norm than the exception, the cigars arrived last October, limited to 2,000 boxes of 25.
