Carneys Point, a township of just over 8,000 people in southwestern New Jersey, has joined the list of municipalities banning smoking in parks and recreation areas. The Township Committee passed the ordinance on March 5, with signage set to be produced and installed in the near future. The ban covers public parks, playfields, ball fields and other areas used for outdoor and recreational activities, according to NJ.com. It also includes areas adjacent to Carneys Point Recreation Complex and Dunns Park, including driveways and parking lots. Those who violate the fine will be subject to fines ranging from $50 to $200 depending on if it is a repeat offense.
