The Cortland County (N.Y.) Legislature voted against a proposal to raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco products to 21 on Wednesday night. According to a report from WXHC-FM, legislators feared that should the minimum age to purchase tobacco be raised, it would set a precedent for other products deemed to be unhealthy, such as soda and sugar. Cortland County is located in the central part of the state and has a population of just under 50,000 residents.
