In 1935, Segundo Lopez filed a registration in Cuba for a new brand, Montecristo. A short time later, Lopez sold his Particulares factory and the brand to Alonso Menendez. While the new owner would help make Montecristo one of the most iconic cigars, at the time, Menendez had two far more successful brands—Bryon and Particulares. Now, the latter will return to the U.S. market. Sindicato Cigar Group will debut the new Particulares at next month’s IPCPR Convention & Trade Show. It actually uses artwork from the vista of the old Particulares brand, although it’s been placed on both the outside and inside the lid. Particulares has been sold in batches over the years under the Particulares Reserva name. The brand is still owned by Casa Fernández, who purchased the rights to it from Pedro Martín in the early 2000s, but Sindicato will be the exclusive distributor and marketer for Particulares. It should come as no surprise that it will be produced by Casa Fernández/AGANORSA at the company’s Tabacos Valle de Jalapa S.A.
