La Galera Cigars/Indianhead Distributors has begun shipping a new sweet-tipped offering to U.S. retailers, Rough Rider Sweets. It’s a long filler cigar that uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, with the Dominican Republic supplying a Cuban seed binder and a filler blend of piloto cubano and criollo 98, all of which is long filler tobacco. It’s a mild flavor profile combining natural tobacco flavor with a touch of sweetness in the cap that offers notes of sugar cane, honey and wine. The line is being released in five sizes, all in 25-count boxes: Lonsdale (6 x 44, $3.32, $83 per box), Robusto (5 x 50, $3.32, $83 per box), Toro (6 x 52, $3.56, $89 per box), Churchill (7 x 50, $3.72, $93 per box) and Gordo (6 x 60, $3.88, $97 per box). It’s being made at Tabacalera Palma in the Dominican Republic. The Rough Rider Sweets name has been on the market since at least 2001, but Indianhead is giving it a refreshed look created by Fabian Barrantes, the company’s director of marketing and sales. La Galera Cigars/Indianhead Distributors was acquired by José “Jochy” Blanco, best known as the head of Tabacalera Palma, in October 2015.
