While the New Jersey legislature once again debates a statewide beach smoking ban, the Long Beach Island resort borough of Beach Haven has passed its own ban that will go into effect on June 8. The new ban will not only apply on beaches and in parks, but within 15 feet of the entrance to areas. Beach Haven becomes the fourth town on the island to pass a beach smoking ban, joining with Harvey Cedars, Ship Bottom and Long Beach Township, according to NJ.com. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie vetoed a statewide beach smoking ban proposal in 2014, saying he thinks such decisions should be left up to individual municipalities. Beach Haven is home to an estimated 1,177 residents.
