There’s another attempt to ban the sale of flavored cigars in New Jersey. Sen. Shirley K. Turner, D-Hunterdon/ Mercer, has introduced S.1961, a bill that seeks to ban flavored cigars in the state of New Jersey. The bill would amend state code to include the word cigar next to the word cigarette, which bans the sale of products that have”characterizing flavor other than tobacco, clove, or menthol.” There is no provision that would separate cigars by price, size or whether the cigar is short-, mixed-, or longfiller. This is not the first time Sen. Turner has introduced legislation to ban flavored cigars. In both the 2012-2013 and 2014-2015 sessions, Turner introduced similar legislation. Earlier this year, Turner co-sponsored legislation that seeks to increase the minimum age to purchase tobacco.
