Gloucester Becomes 100th City in Massachusetts to Raise Tobacco Age

And then there were 100. On March 3, the Gloucester, Mass. board of health voted unanimously to increase the minimum age to purchase tobacco and nicotine delivery products from 18 to 21-years-old, making it the 100th municipality in the state to enact such an increase. Additionally, the board passed a requirement that all restaurants with outdoor patios explicitly state via signage whether or not they allow smoking in those areas. Both changes will go into effect on June 1. Gloucester is home to nearly 30,000 residents and is located on the eastern tip of the state.
