While many cities in the Kansas City area are increasing the age to purchase tobacco products, Leavenworth, Kan. won’t be one of them. After debate at a city council work session on Tuesday, city leaders couldn’t come to an agreement as to whether or not to pursue an increase to the minimum age to purchase tobacco products, and because of that, it won’t be pursued. The idea has been discussed since late December, when Commissioner Mark Preisinger brought up the proposal. A discussion among commissioners in early February only produced a resolution to discuss that idea again at a later date, according to the Leavenworth Times. Leavenworth is home to just approximately 36,000 residents and is located 25 miles northwest of Kansas City, Mo.
