In April 2015, General Cigar Co. celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Hoyo de Monterrey brand by releasing the Edición de Cumpleaños 150, a limited edition cigar that abandoned the traditional red and gold color scheme in favor of a black and silver design in an attempt to modernize the classic Cuban cigar brand’s look. Next month, the new design goes regular production with the release of Hoyo, a cigar that will keep elements of that limited edition release with a similar blend, using a Nicaraguan habano wrapper that has undergone extra fermentation. While the binder and filler have not been disclosed for this release, they were Ecuadorian and Nicaraguan, respectively, on the Edición de Cumpleaños 150. Specific sizes have not yet been announced, but an image sent by General Cigar Co. to halfwheel was titled as a Gigante, a term which the company uses for a number 6 x 60 releases. Pricing should be between $5.49 and $6.99 per stick, with the cigars made at General’s STG Danli factory in Honduras. News of this new cigar was first reported by Cigar Insider.
